How can be welding distortions minimized during electric arc welding? | |
like-when in doing groove welding around the round piece ,square, triangle piece with brackets--where to start and where to finish
Answers:
1Try tacking every couple of inches and then welding the spaces between the tacks alternating sides.
Exp. Weld 2" on one side then 2" on the other side and keep working your way around.
Just make sure your tacks are down first to prevent pulling off center.

why are there distortions when welding?
From: Dave
welding distortion is caused by uneven heating and cooling of the weldment during welding. some of the more common methods of minimizing distortion are; joint restraint, preheat, do not over weld, use an intermittent welding sequence, and pre-set your parts to allow for the pulling (shrinkage). restraint works well with mild steel, like clamping, tack-welding, using temporary bracing, or jigs and fixtures.
