what happens to the weld when you change from a leading angle to a trailing angle?

Answers:

From: Dean Raines (Welding Instructor)

when you change from a leading angle to a trailing angle you achieve better penetration and are able to "build up" more weld metal for better reinforcement. the trailing angle allows you to see the weld pool a little better also.
if you are welding aluminum, you should only use the leading angle.
