the best rod to use is called "nye" rod, but it is a special cast iron rod and must be used in the proper manner and it's quite expensive. last time i bought some it was like 30.00 bucks for 8 rods. it welds similar to 6011 in my opinion but you must first back grind the parent metal wide enough to lay in a good root pass, it's also important to have a helper with you to run the oxy/acetalyne torch or be a really good multi tasker. you must get the parent metal cherry red before welding, and run your rod cold-med heat, after welding the weld joint should be immersed 100% in kitty litter to slow the cool down process and should cool down for min 24 hrs before use. this avoids "crackout", if cracks are noticed after cooling you did something wrong ,must re-do!
