can a lincoln 225/125 ac/dc welding machine be powered from a 8kw portable gasoline engine generator without damaging the engine or generator with the impact loading of the welder? will the dc mode of the welder be a smoother load on the generator? if this is a problem how large a generator will i have to use to make this combination safe? thanks

as long as the generator has the ability to support single phase 220/240 with min 30 amp fuse protection you should be fine. if it won't handle it the fuse will blow before the motor does. that's the whole idea behind fused electrical circuits, " the fuse blows " before anything else blows. i run a lincoln single phase 220v welder off of a 5500 briggs&stratton generator it runs fine, if it was going to damage thy engine the fuse would " blow ", see where i'm going with this!?
