how to minimize oxydation? | |
how do we control/eliminate oxidation on weld beads and heat affected zone on tig welding? i'm dealing with the oxydation occurance on the weld beads as well as the haz. we have try to supply enough backing gas (argon) but still, at certain time, the problem occurs.

try argweld tape, its a backing tape that supports the weld pool and therefore improves the bead profile. for pipes i would recommend a purging system. have you thought about trailing shields? they keep the welded metal enclosed in a non-reactive gas until its cooled enough and prevents oxidiasation and discolouration. i think argweld also sell these under the name huntingdon fusion.
hope this has been a help.
