what is the right procedure for welding pure aluminum and the equipment required | |

the purest aluminum comercially available is the 1000 series. the 1000 series is 99% pure aluminum. to weld 1000 series to 1000 series aluminum you can use filler rod r1100, r1260 or if these are not available try r4043. r4043 is a very common filler rod and will be easier to find. the correct welding process would be gtaw or tig (tungsten inert gas) welding with high frequency. use argon shielding gas for good cover or helium gas for good weld depth. the procedure for running a weld bead is similar to steel except the heat waves you see through the welding lense will be in shades of gray and will move very fast, where as steel has heat waves in orange and they move slow. the welding will start slow but when the puddle develops you need to move to keep from blowing a hole. with experiance and skill a well performed weld bead is a thing of beauty. have fun!
