Aluminum welding might sound as easy as iron welding or titanium welding, but actually it is a lot harder and that for many reasons. First of all, the aluminum oxide layer that appears extremely quickly on the aluminum products need a lot more heat than the metal below and thus it has to be carefully and thoroughly removed before aluminum welding. If this fact is overlooked or marked as irrelevant, than the results of the welding are affected substantially.
Furthermore, a lot of aluminum products improve their strength with cold- working or with using heat on them. But with aluminum welding and the heat that is used to process the aluminum reverses this previously mentioned effect and thus making aluminum extremely weak and causing it to turn as hard as possible.
Therefore, the best idea would be to use aluminum alloys that have added elements that are able to take away this characteristic. Those alloys can be used for aluminum welding.
To conclude, we can say that aluminum welding demands a lot of expertise and knowledge to have it done properly. Additionally, the right kind of an aluminum alloy has to be used to get the result necessary. Thus, we can say that aluminum welding is definitely not made for beginner welders.
